What Are the Main Causes of Fatalities in the Workplace and How Can Stop’N’Go Help?
Feb 13 2023
During the last reporting year of 2021-2022, the HSE reported 123 workplace fatalities over a range of sectors from construction, and manufacturing, to waste and recycling.
These fatalities occurred for a number of reasons, with fatal accidents from a moving vehicle, a moving object, or moving machinery accounting for nearly 50% of these.
Every single one of these tragic occurrences is one too many. How many could have been avoidable through safer control measures, improved safety equipment or workwear, or appropriate training?
What Can You Do to Improve Your Safety Culture?
There are many ways that you can improve the safety culture of your organization. Here are our simple steps to address any safety problems before they become an issue:
- Undertake a comprehensive safety audit of your organization. Understanding your operational hazards in more detail will allow you to prepare and protect your employees appropriately.
- Audit your current PPE provisions and assess if they are the right choice for you. In many cases, investing in higher-quality PPE will save money in the long term.
- Engage with your staff and ask what is important to them? What do they need to be able to do their jobs safely and comfortably?
- Work with suppliers and engage in user trials. At Stop’N’Go we actively encourage user trials to be undertaken to establish the best working relationships with our customers.
- Monitor your workplace accident records and near-miss occurrences to analyze how and why these accidents occurred so changes can be implemented to minimize the likelihood of them happening in the future.
How Can Stop’N’Go improve Safety on Site?
At Stop’N’Go our main passion and focus are to reduce workplace accidents as much as possible by making communication as clear as possible for operatives.
From our extensive user trials and research prior to development, we found out that poor visibility was the number 1 reason that reversing accidents occurred and that 89% of all users reported better visibility of the hand signals being given to drivers when using the Stop’N’Go range of gloves.
